Only consistent quality assurance transforms a good part into a reliable series product. Customers choosing Polymeca for high-precision components and complex assemblies receive micrometre tolerances alongside a team driven by a culture of absolute precision. Emin Vinca leads this team. In this interview, he talks about measurement technology, accountability in production, response times for complaints and what motivates him in his work.<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div><div class=\"container simple-text-section-wrapper\">\n    <h2><strong>Role and responsibility<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><strong>Emin, what is your position at Polymeca, and what are your responsibilities?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I have been Head of Quality at Polymeca since 2011, and since 2015 I have also been managing the Measurement Technology department with approximately twelve employees. As Quality Manager, I am responsible for quality assurance in production, auditing according to ISO 9001 and ISO 14001, complaint management, test equipment management and technical support for our customers regarding measurement technology issues.<\/p>\n<\/div><div class=\"container simple-text-section-wrapper\">\n    <h2><strong>People drive measurement technology<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><strong>Who works on your team, and what kind of training do these people have?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>They all have a basic mechanical engineering training; they have metalworking in their blood. Those who work on the measurement machine also complete courses 1 &amp; 2 and ISO GPS, in addition to user training on Hexagon&#8217;s Quindos system. We track each individual&#8217;s training level using a flexible matrix and plan the next training sessions once or twice a year.<\/p>\n<\/div><div class=\"container simple-text-section-wrapper\">\n    <h2><strong>Testing on the machine, not just with measurement technology<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><strong>How is the interaction between measurement technology and ongoing production organised?<br \/>\n<\/strong><br \/>\nIn production, the accountability of each individual is paramount. Employees check specifications during production thanks to integrated process monitoring and control, as well as with measuring robots. This is crucial, as early detection of problems is essential in series production.<\/p>\n<p>Only then do the parts come to our Measurement Technology department for final measurement. Our Measurement Technology team trains employees both in the measuring room and on the production machine itself.<\/p>\n<\/div><div class=\"container simple-text-section-wrapper\">\n    <h2><strong>Early involvement keeps new projects cost-effective<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><strong>Your department is involved early in new projects. What does that look like?<br \/>\n<\/strong><br \/>\nWe&#8217;re involved in the feasibility analysis and work with the project manager to determine the necessary tolerances on the drawing. We also try to optimise the workpiece with the customer to reduce production costs in series production. Every initial order undergoes a formal quality management acceptance test using a checklist, documentation and measurement reports.<\/p>\n<\/div><div class=\"container simple-text-section-wrapper\">\n    <h2>What if something comes up in the middle of series production?<\/h2>\n<p><strong>What happens if a part falls outside the tolerance range?<br \/>\n<\/strong><br \/>\nWe stop the machine and inspect the workpiece using measurement technology. During the process, we mark the measured parts, so we know exactly which part was last inspected and don&#8217;t have to remeasure the entire batch.<\/p>\n<\/div><div class=\"container simple-text-section-wrapper\">\n    <h2><strong>Complaints: Guaranteed response within 24 hours<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><strong>How do you handle customer complaints?<br \/>\n<\/strong><br \/>\nOur promise to the customer is as follows: Within 24 hours, you will receive initial feedback confirming that the error report has been received and that we are working hard to find the cause. Throughout the process, we will maintain contact with the customer and work together to find solutions. It&#8217;s not just about selling parts and assemblies; the service alongside is equally important.<\/p>\n<\/div><div class=\"container simple-text-section-wrapper\">\n    <h2><strong>What fascinates Emin about the quality<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><strong>What motivates you every day?<br \/>\n<\/strong><br \/>\nThe wow factor. When the customer unpacks the first parts and says, &#8220;They can do it&#8221; before any measurements have even been taken, and the part can then be seamlessly installed in the assembly. I also appreciate feedback from customers and internal project managers; it motivates me and my team every day.<\/p>\n<p><strong>And how do you unwind?<br \/>\n<\/strong><br \/>\nI often ride my e-bike around the Heerbrugg region, and I also spend time with my family. My three daughters keep my wife and me on our toes. Just like at work, I like things tidy and minimalist at home.
