Eelectroplating

In electroplating, we refine metallic components with functional and decorative surfaces for protection, appearance and quality.

In our electroplating facility, we offer a wide range of electroplating and chemical surface treatments. Through electroplating, we refine, protect or functionally modify metallic surfaces. This results in components with defined properties for demanding industrial applications.

The most important points

  • Electrochemical processes for the surface treatment of metals

Electroplating expertise at Polymeca

In electroplating, Polymeca refines metallic components using chemical and galvanic processes. The focus is on functional and decorative surfaces for precision components where corrosion protection, wear resistance, conductivity, appearance or subsequent processing steps play a central role.

One key area of expertise is chemical nickel plating. This process offers excellent corrosion protection, uniform coating thickness, good wear resistance and a high-quality finish. Since the coating deposits uniformly even on complex geometries, the process is ideal for technical components with demanding requirements for both function and surface finish.

Ultrasonic cleaning is also an important part of our electroplating services. Clean surfaces ensure stable coating processes. Therefore, we tailor the cleaning steps before and after coating specifically to the material, component geometry and subsequent processing.

For specific requirements, Polymeca employs other specialised processes, including black chrome plating, blue annealing of brass, passivation of stainless steel, burnish of stainless steel, and copper plating. This allows us to create functional or decorative surfaces that are precisely tailored to the intended use of the component.

Frequently asked questions about electroplating

What is meant by electroplating?
Electroplating refers to electrochemical processes in which a thin layer of metal is applied to the surface of a workpiece using electric current. This process is also known as electroplating.
What layer thicknesses are achievable?
Different layer thicknesses are possible in electroplating. They depend on the process, the metal being deposited, the bath chemistry and the intended application. At Polymeca, layer thicknesses typically range between approximately 3 µm and 30 µm.
Is pre-machining adjustment required for electroplating?
Electroplating involves applying material. Depending on the process, the layer thickness typically ranges between approximately 3 µm and 30 µm. This changes the dimensions of the component. Therefore, depending on its function, pre-machining adjustment is necessary.
What component sizes can be electroplated?
Component sizes and maximum component weights must be clarified with our specialists in advance. This allows us to determine whether a coating is technically feasible and which process is suitable for the component.
How do you ensure quality in the series?
We continuously monitor all process baths in our own analysis laboratory. Continuous monitoring and documentation of process parameters ensure reproducible coating quality. We also measure layer thicknesses.
