Anodising

When anodising, we refine aluminium components using the GS process with dimensionally accurate anodised layers and reproducible quality.

Anodised coatings combine functional and decorative properties in a durable aluminium oxide layer. They reliably protect aluminium from corrosion, improve adhesion and increase wear resistance. Anodising creates surfaces that are both technically robust and visually appealing.

Anodising expertise at Polymeca

The GS process, the direct current/sulphuric acid process, is the most widely used anodising process worldwide. Polymeca also uses this process. It combines protection, appearance and process reliability in a stable coating process.

The aluminium oxide layer produced in the GS-process offers a high level of corrosion protection, especially after the final sealing process.

Polymeca offers dimensionally accurate coatings with no dimensional change. This makes Polymeca particularly attractive for applications in precision mechanics and optics.

The excellent colouring options for the coatings, as well as various mechanical or chemical pre-treatments, create numerous possibilities for decorative applications. For example, the combination of glass bead blasting and chemical shining allows for the creation of elegant surfaces with a high-quality feel.

Pre-treatments

With chemical or mechanical pre-treatments such as

  • Si-carbide blasting
  • Glass bead blasting
  • Sand blasting
  • Shining
  • Pickling
  • Matting

we create surfaces with defined visual and haptic properties. This allows us to meet different requirements and customer requests regarding function, appearance and feel.

Quality assurance, analysis and environmental protection

Our coating processes guarantee precision, sustainability and reliability. Every component meets our specifications for dimensional accuracy and surface quality – from the first to the last part of a series.

To ensure this, we continuously monitor all process baths in our own analysis laboratory. Continuous monitoring and documentation of all process parameters ensure a reproducible coating quality that our customers can rely on.

Quality:

  • ISO 9001:2015 certified
  • Analytic laboratory
  • Coating thickness measurement
  • Corrosion tests

Environmental protection:

  • ISO 14001:2015 certified
  • RoHS compliant processes
  • REACH compliant processes
  • Modern wastewater treatment
  • Steadily growing sustainability
MORE ABOUT QUALITY AND THE ENVIRONMENT

«It never ceases to amaze me how a wide variety of surfaces can be created from a single piece of aluminium, straight out of the machine. We give materials character, adding new functionality and effects.»

Frequently asked questions about anodising

What is meant by anodising?
Anodising is an electrochemical process for creating a protective oxide layer on aluminium. This makes the surface more durable, harder and more corrosion-resistant. The anodised layer can also be coloured.
Is pre-machining adjustment required for anodising?
No. Polymeca offers dimensionally accurate coatings with no dimensional change. The components are first etched and then anodised. This balances material removal with uniform layer development.
What colour options are available?
We primarily offer natural anodised aluminium (colourless) and black finishes. Colours such as blue, red, golden yellow, violet or other shades are available from Polymeca upon request. Anodised colours do not correspond to standardised colour codes like RAL or Pantone and can only be achieved after a sample has been produced.
What component sizes can be anodised?
Polymeca anodises components with a maximum size of 2000 x 500 x 1000 mm. Crucial factors, besides the component size, are the material, geometry and required layer thickness.
How do you ensure quality in the series?
We continuously monitor all process baths in our own analysis laboratory. In addition, our measurement technology checks important component dimensions. We measure layer thicknesses using specialised measuring equipment.
