Passivation

During passivation, we protect aluminium components with SurTec 650 chromitAL TCP and maintain their electrical conductivity.

SurTec 650 is a high-quality process for the surface treatment of aluminium and aluminium alloys. It creates a thin, transparent to slightly iridescent protective layer on the aluminium surface. This protects components from corrosion and maintains their electrical conductivity.

The most important points

  • Passivation of aluminium alloys
  • Extremely thin protective layer, no change in dimensions
  • Optimal base for subsequent processes such as painting or gluing

Passivation expertise at Polymeca

Passivation coatings have very thin layers and are ideal as a base for subsequent coatings. Unlike anodised layers, they offer high conductivity with low surface resistance.

Despite the extremely thin layer, which is barely visible to the naked eye, our SurTec-650 coatings meet corrosion protection requirements according to MIL standards, as tested in the 336-hour salt spray test. The processes are RoHS and REACH compliant.

Frequently asked questions about passivation

What is meant by passivation with SurTec 650?
SurTec 650 is a chromium(VI)-free passivation for aluminium and aluminium alloys. The process creates a corrosion-resistant conversion layer. It serves as a modern, environmentally friendly alternative to traditional chromating processes.
What are the properties of a SurTec-650 passivation?
A SurTec-650 passivation offers high corrosion resistance, is chromium(VI)-free and therefore environmentally friendly. It also improves electrical conductivity and serves as an excellent base for subsequent coatings.
Which component sizes can be passivated?
Components with a maximum size of 2000 x 500 x 1000 mm can be passivated at Polymeca. In addition to the component size, the material, geometry, and requirements for corrosion protection and conductivity are also crucial.
How do you ensure quality in the series?
We continuously monitor all process baths in our own analysis laboratory. Continuous monitoring and documentation of process parameters ensure reproducible coating quality in series production.
